Appleton’s Madras Cafe opens in previous Whisk & Arrow area

APPLETON – You will find a new eating option for vegetarians in the Fox Towns.

Madras Cafe, a family-owned restaurant serving South Indian food, has opened in the former Whisk & Arrow location at 819 W. Wisconsin Ave. 

Srinivasan Aravamudan and Rama Srinivasan have and operate Madras Cafe with the support of their two daughters, Subhi and Sam Srinivasan. The relatives has lived in the Fox Valley for seven many years and the United States for more than a decade right after emigrating from Chennai, a major town in southern India. 

Right until 1996, Chennai was known as Madras. For Rama, the city’s outdated identify evokes nostalgia. She stated that the restaurant was named Madras Cafe to “consider a piece of residence with us.”

The family’s drive to manage ties to their culture goes into their food items, way too. Aravamudan, a priest at the Hindu Temple of North East Wisconsin, reported cooking and serving some others was handed down to the two him and Rama through their family members and traditions.

“We utilized to see and do a good deal of kitchen perform during temple (services),” he stated. “That is how we qualified.” He added that he and Rama strive to make their foodstuff how they remember it from India.
